Frequently Asked Questions

Directors are elected each June at our Annual General Meeting for a two year term.
Total time commitment is about 5 hours per month.
The Board meets 10 times a year, and each meeting is about an hour long over Zoom.
Every Director is also asked to participate on a committee and/ or take on additional tasks between meetings.

At CAP our Board members are the backbone of the organization. They:
Identify issues facing people affected by porphyria and work together to come up with solutions
Set the short, medium and long term goals of the organization, and helps make those goals a reality.
Attend meetings and events as a representative of CAP.
Are in a position of trust with our community and has legal responsibility for the organization.

It is an exciting time to be involved. Right now we are working on:
Creating opportunities to connect for people and families living with porphyria
Improving access to information and resources for patients and their physicians
Creating treatment guidelines for porphyria
Advocating for access to treatments for porphyria
Increasing awareness of porphyria

Board experience is helpful, but not necessary. We are looking for people:
With a commitment to CAP/ACP and its mission- this is essential.
From all regions of Canada, particularly Atlantic Canada, Quebec, BC and the North.
Who have a connection to, or interest in, porphyria
With experience and knowledge they can contribute to the governance of CAP/ACP. Experience with marketing and communications, health care and research, fund development, nonprofit governance, finances and program development would all be helpful.
